Establishing a Dynamic and Effective Facility Training Program for Compliance with Phase 3 and Beyond
By November 2019, facilities must implement an “effective training program” that addresses specific topics as indicated in Phase 3 of the CMS regulations, as well as topics unique to each facility and the needs of their residents. Resources are limited, including time and money, so it is imperative that a training program maximizes both. Post-acute and long term care facilities are quite familiar with training and are adept at scheduling “inservices” in which staff are passive recipients of information. But what if inservices aren’t enough anymore? Creating a dynamic training program requires many components to be successful, including employing adult learning principles and engaging staff in the learning process. A truly effective training program goes beyond just achieving compliance; it inspires staff and engages them on their learning journey which ultimately impacts resident care and outcomes. And, it makes the job easier and more fun!
