Presenter:

Catherine R. "Cat" Selman is a nationally renowned speaker, educator and consultant. Cat has a BS Degree from Trevecca University and has completed graduate work at USM. She served as a Corporate Management Consultant for 101 nursing facilities in seven states before starting her own business in 1988. With over 28 years of experience in health care practice, education and consultation, Ms. Selman has trained providers and surveyors in over forty states. She served as a member of CMS Panels on various subject matters. 

Objectives:

Part I: The Function of Social Services from "A to Z"

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the role, function, and value of social work in nursing homes

  2. Identify materials that can be the basis for social work practice in nursing homes

  3. Comprehensively identify the psychosocial needs of residents and how to meet them

Part II: Advanced Training Course

The advanced course takes professionals a step further in social work practice for the elderly in nursing facilities.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify case-mix reimbursement issues

  2. Identify and discuss ethical dilemmas and decisions affecting resident care and social work practice

  3. Identify and describe quality indicators /quality measures

  4. Describe management, staffing and budgetary constraints

  5. Describe and give examples of defensive documentation

Each Day:
8:30 am: Registration
9:00 am: Program Begins
10:30 am — 10:45 am: Break
12:00 pm — 1:00 pm: Lunch (provided)
2:30 pm — 2:45 pm: Break
4:30 pm: Conclusion

Policies:

Registration Policies
Register early. Space is filled on a first paid, first served basis. Registration forms received without payment will not be processed. Registration policies are the same for faxed or mailed registrations. Faxed registrations must include credit card information.

Cancellation Policies
Refunds will be honored if requested in writing one week prior to date of program or if program is full. Same day refunds will be issued if HFAM is notified of a State Survey being conducted at your facility. Registrants who are unable to attend are encouraged to send a substitute. Substitutes are allowed without prior notification.

Continuing Education:

Administrators. This educational offering has been reviewed by the National Continuing Education Review Service (NCERS) of the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) and approved for a total of 24 clock hours and 24 particiapant hours, 12 for Part I and 12 for Part II.

Social Workers. HFAM is an approved sponsor by the Board of Social Work Examiners. This program is approved for 24 Social Work Category I Education units, 12 for Part I and 12 for Part II.

From Baltimore & North. TakeI-95 South toward Washington, DC. Take Route 175 W towards Columbia. After the Gateway Center exit get in right hand lane. Take the exit for Snowden River Parkway South. Make a left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Snowden River Pkwy. Proceed through approx. 6 traffic lights turn right onto Minstrel Way (Exxon / KFC on the corner). Follow Minstrel Way around to your left, enter the cul-de-sac and take the last parking lot entrance. This is building 7135.

From Annapolis & East. Take Route 50 West to I-97 North towards Baltimore. Take Route 32 West towards MD-3 South/Columbia/Bowie. Straight on Route 32 for approximately 16 miles. Take the Broken Land Parkway exit North. Turn slight right onto Snowden River Parkway. At the st traffic light turn left onto Minstrel Way (Exxon / KFC on the corner). Follow Minstrel Way around to your left, enter the cul-de-sac and take the last parking lot entrance. This is building 7135.

From Western Maryland. Take Route 70 East to Route 29 South exit, towards Columbia/Washington. Take Route 100 East exit, on the left towards Glen Burnie. Take the Snowden River Parkway exit. Straight on Snowden River for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Minstrel Way (Exxon / KFC on the corner). Follow Minstrel Way around to your left, enter the cul-de-sac and take the last parking lot entrance. This is building 7135.

From Washington DC & South. Take I-95 North towards Baltimore. Take Route 32 West towards Columbia. Take the Broken Land Parkway exit North. Turn slight right onto Snowden River Parkway. At the 1st traffic light turn right onto Minstrel Way (Exxon / KFC on the corner). Follow Minstrel Way around to your left, enter the cul-de-sac and take the last parking lot entrance. This is building 7135.
